Get To Know Me

The main reason I love reading blogs is because I feel like I know the blogger and that makes me know she's real. It's not that she comes out and says exactly who she is but reading someone's blog is almost like reading someone's journal.

I personally don't keep a journal so if there is something I'm writing on here it's what I am feeling in that moment and I think that is really important when it comes to blogging. I think it's important for my readers and followers to understand that I do more than write a blog and it isn't always my first priority!

I guess you could say this is kind of a "get to know me" post! I know I've done a question and answer video and I've done "twenty little facts about me" post but those are just fun little things. So if you want to know my life story this far read on!

I'll try to keep this short and sweet! I mean I am not that interesting of a person, I promise. Let's see let's see! I'm eighteen years old and I live on an island in South Carolina called Hilton Head. Most people come here to vacation but I live next to the beach all year long.

I'm not like most people on this island. I'd rather stay in on a Friday night to bake cupcakes or watch YouTube videos than going out to a party. My favorite thing to do is go shopping or sit outside a coffee shop (although I don't do it that often) because it involves no stress or thought. Unless you are looking for something specific while shopping then it is stressful!

Taylor Swift is my favorite singer... like ever. And my friend and I got chosen to meet her and go to Club Red after her concert last year! It was the best experience ever. She was so sweet and if it was possible made me love her even more! So there is a total random life experience.

Now, here is a completely random fact but my hair does not curl well whatsoever. I always have to straighten my hair otherwise it'll be frizzy and poofy! But, that's not to say I haven't left my house without doing my hair... I totally have. #Oops

I am obsessed with skirts and dresses! They are the best clothing item in the whole world. I am determined to wear tons of skirts and sun dresses this summer and spring. I already added three skirts to my collection but I need to add a few more.

Well, I can't reveal everything about me right now. But, I'm sure I'll come by again and tell y'all a little more! Have a fantastic morning! :)

#OOTD :: Shopping In Savannah

It has been quite some time since my last #OOTD. To be exact two months and one day. I know I feel like I'm slacking considering that post was before Christmas. That being said my #OOTD series is back and better than ever!

Yesterday I had the best day shopping in Savannah, GA with my friend Kylie! We spent the afternoon strolling down Broughton Street (in spring like weather might I add) and stopping in stores that had appealing window displays! The best being Kate Spade. Then we stopped at the Paris Market for some macarons and pink lemonade. It was the best day I have had in awhile. (***warning, there are tons of pictures in this post.)

So first we started off at a little restuaurant (where I'm sitting above) but we left after we didn't get any service! So we decided to move on and continue shopping!

City market is such a cute place! Yesterday it was filled with so many people and it just added so much liveliness to the already perfect day.

And we may or may not have gotten lost... Kylie figured it out though.

The Paris Market... The best place in the world! We got some macarons and sparkling pink lemonade. #delicious.

I love the color of the pillars at the Paris Market!

Here is proof that not all these pictures that are taken come out well. Most of the pictures on blogs only show highlights. So here is a funny, real, and not so typical blog picture!

#AerieREAL

Aerie has began this amazing campaign which is #aerieREAL and I think it is the most amazing thing to happen in today's society. The company has decided to stop retouching their models and to show girls that are actually your size.

The reason I think this is so amazing is because girls today think they should be like the models and the girls in the magazines. But the truth is even the models don't look like that. They have flaws too. The point of the campaign isn't to point out that models have flaws too but to point out that the retouched photos aren't real and they aren't something that is realistic to achieve. They are helping us girls to understand we don't have to apologetic for the way we look. They are teaching us to be REAL.

I was in an Aerie store the other day while in Wisconsin and the women in the store were so nice and helpful. Aerie is definitely one of my obsessions right now between the campaign and the great customer service.

When you make a purchase at Aerie they give you a sticker too! There are all different kinds and the one they gave me says "Aerie girls are real" and I love it. I put it on the back of my computer immediately! All in all I think the models look happier in this campaign!

I for sure will only be shopping at Aerie from now on. Here is my favorite item I bought at the store, I plan to order them in every single color and pattern. So comfy!

How do you girls feel about the #aerieREAL campaign?

Guest Post :: Victoria

I had a great chance to pair up with Victoria for a very useful guest post! Here is Victoria's about college interviews! Be on the look out on her blog for the next week for my guest post about dorm room decorating! I love this post, Victoria has the best advice! Read on.
.............................

Hello!

Today I'm partnering up with Abigail to talk to you all about college. Since both of us are high school seniors, we figured that we'd try and tackle two of the most daunting parts of the entire process: interviews and dorms. Abigail is taking on dorms, and I'm taking interviews.

My first college interview was this past summer. It was awful. I was a nervous wreck, and I felt like I did a terrible job relaying to my interviewer who I was or what characteristics about my life I wanted to make sure she knew. You best believe that when it came time for another interview (with a different school) I was ready.

I came better-dressed, I had done research on the institution, and written it down in a notebook that I brought to the interview so that I could ask questions and write down my own answers.

I got into this college (I didn't end up applying to the other one), so I considered this a successful interview. So, here are some tips I've come up with to help you all out with your interviews.

1. Look the Part
Go to the college's admissions page - on their website and on Twitter or Instagram. Take a look at what their admissions counselors are wearing if you can. If they're dressed in business casual, wear a nice pair of pants, a modest top, and boots. If you see most of their counselors wearing dresses or skirts, find a cute day dress and add some accessories to personalize it. The key to interview attire is modesty. You want to impress your interviewer with your accomplishments and personality, not your body.
For example, here I am wearing a white button-down shirt, a scarf, hunter green cords and boots (not pictured). My friend, Susanna, is wearing a sweater and a striped tee with dark-wash jeans and riding boots.
Here, I'm wearing a dress from Anthropologie (similar) and sandals, and my friend Ellen is wearing a modest day dress as well.

In terms of makeup, it should be simple, fresh, and natural-looking. I would recommend sticking to a version of your everyday makeup (see mine here!). An extra coat of mascara or a modest swipe of eyeliner would be great additions.

2. Learn
Do your research. Just sit down at your computer and spend 15 minutes on the university's website, and see what you can find. Look up the department you think you might be interested in. For example, I'm interested in history, education, and communications. Go to the department pages and see if they have any cool programs offered or if there's any recent news on these departments. When your interviewer asks you what you want to major in, and you can answer with facts about those specific programs, they will be blown away because you have done your homework. Also, if you are interested in any other student organizations, such as athletics, Greek life, etc. be sure to mention that you plan to participate in those! Schools want people who will contribute to their campus, and they won't know if that's you unless you tell them!

3. Listen Up
Listen to your interviewer. You are having a formal conversation with them. Because they likely work in the office of admissions, they know pretty much everything there is to know about that particular school. If you were confused about a certain program, or if you just have a general question, ask them. Their job is to be in the know about anything and everything about the school, so politely ask them questions, and don't zone out when they start giving the general college information -  you may already know the student population and when the school was founded, but they will notice if you are politely attentive.

4. Calm Down
Interviews can be very nerve-wracking. They can easily become high-pressure situations, especially if the school you are interviewing for is very competitive. However, if you psych yourself out and you are constantly rambling, you will not best represent yourself. Before they call your name, remind yourself of all of the good things about you. You are interviewing for college. That in itself is an accomplishment. You are clearly intelligent, and because you are simply present at the interview you have ambition and drive to be successful. Take a couple deep breaths, try to sip on some water, and if you need to pace in the waiting room, just do it if it will make you feel better.

At the end of the day, the interviewer is just a person too. They have families and goals, just like you. They have made mistakes, they have been in your shoes.

I hope this has been helpful for you all! I hope you'll also go check out Abigail's post on my blog.
Have a great day!

xx, Victoria

Gift Guide :: Valentine's Day with Friends

Valentine's Day is such a cute holiday in my opinion! Not because it's all about love (I mean yes that's cute) but because it focuses on the best color of all time... PINK! There are so many cute gifts and cards that come in the most perfect hue!

This is my gift guide for a Valentine's Day with friends!

ONE // a tulle skirt is the cutest thing in the whole entire world! This bright pink color is perfect for a day full of love!

TWO // you can never go wrong with nail polish! It's a cheap gift for all of your girlfriends and you can add a special note around it! This is the color Lovie Dovie by Essie! How perfect is the name?

THREE // the #GirlyGirl pencil set from Design Darling is the cutest present for your studious friend, a friend who likes to write letters, or the friend that's always jotting down notes. I think these pencils are to die for. The pencils say; bicycle rides, girls' night in, gin & tonics, new shoes, picnics in the park and roadtrips! How perfect? My favorite is "girls night in" because I'd much rather stay in and bake pink cupcakes than go out for a night full of partying and loud music!

FOUR // This hot pink bow from Bows & Kites is the perfect pink for Valentine's Day! It's the perfect accessory for the day of love! This is a gift I would give to each of my friends to match on Valentine's Day! (Kind of pathetic... I know.)

FIVE // This "More Sugar!" mug from Ashley Brooke Designs is perfect for your friend with the coffee or tea addiction! The pink makes it perfectly festive for Valentine's Day!

Happy five days until Valentine's Day! I hope everyone's day is filled with love and happiness! xoxo.

A Journal Excerpt, Sorta.

It's been quite sometime since my last post! I'm very sorry about that. Lacrosse started last week so it's had me quite busy after school! At the same time I've been postponing posting for the last week because I have had no inspiration and it has been extremely frustrating. So I thought why not treat this post as if I was writing in a personal journal, here is a look in my life and things that haven't left my mind this week.

This past week has been long and tiring. My loss of inspiration has been driving me insane. I can't think of anything to post and when I do write a post I think it's terrible and delete it. I may or may not have done that 4 times this week. I don't want to put something I'm not 100% about on my blog. My blog is the one thing I am a perfectionist about. I also filmed two video posts today and edited them together just to decide neither of them were good enough. There was always something wrong with it, maybe it was a touch out of focus or maybe the sound quality just wasn't right. I don't know, blogging this week just has not been an option for me. And I feel really guilty for that because I made it a promise to myself to blog at least 5 times a week... That just hasn't happened.

I realize this is just me rambling on but I think it's good to be a little transparent in your life sometimes. This blog only shows highlights of my life, along with my Instagram. I don't think that's a bad thing but I want to be real with my followers. That may sound silly because on the side of my blog it says I have twenty-seven and that may not seem like a lot. But to me, that is twenty-seven people who share the same interests in me and care about what I have to say. And then again I always hope there are those few other people who check up on The Girl In Pink ever week or so to see if there is anything new going on.

This post may make no sense what so ever but like I said, I think it's important in a way. School has been driving me crazy for obvious reason people who know me IRL will understand and I wish everything could go back to normal. It's also weird to think that I will be done with high school in less than four months... I thought I was excited but now I think that I've been wishing high school was over for too long and complained about it more than enjoyed it, so these next four months I plan on enjoying it as much as I can.

Aside from my lack of inspiration and nostalgia there is something else in the back of my mind that is bothering me. I have been seeing this everywhere and used to wish for it until I realized it is unrealistic. Two words, thigh gap. Social media have left women and teenagers obsessing over getting a thigh gap. According from what I've read there are two ways to get a thigh gap, genetically wide hips or unhealthy diets. Now I have narrow hips, there is no possible way for me to ever achieve a thigh gap healthily. I just wish social media didn't have the negative affect it does on people. Like I said before, Instagram is just someone's highlight reel. It's never fair to yourself to compare yourself to someone at their best.

If you are currently reading this congratulations, you've made it to the end of my rambling post. Thank you for powering through. My lack of inspiration being known, please please let me know if there is something specific you would like to see on The Girl In Pink! I'm always up for suggestions.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
